St. John’s College Captures Top Honours in Inaugural RBC Young Leaders Bahamas Program

St. John’s College has claimed the top prize in the inaugural Bahamas edition of the RBC Young Leaders 2025 program, earning $15,000 to bring their innovative underground water purification system to life.

The project, developed by a six-member student team, aims to provide clean, purified water to both the school and surrounding community while remaining environmentally responsible. The concept stood out not only for its technical feasibility but for its potential long-term impact on access to this essential resource.

“At St. John’s, students foster a deep sense of pride and purpose. This win reflects the kind of leadership and forward-thinking we strive to cultivate—not just in academics, but in how our students engage with the world around them,” said Mr. Alphonso Major Jr., Director of Education for the Anglican Central Education Authority.

The RBC Young Leaders program, which launched in The Bahamas earlier this year, challenged students from five schools to design and pitch viable projects aligned with the theme “Sustainable Future.” Over a three-month period, participants were guided through workshops and mentoring sessions focused on project development, financial literacy, time management, and environmental awareness.

St. John’s not only secured first place overall but also swept several special awards, including Best Team Written Proposal, Best Team Oral Presentation, and Most Innovative Proposal.

This win underscores St. John’s College’s growing reputation for student-led innovation and its goal of preparing students not just for exams but for meaningful contributions to society.
