Anglican Central Education Authority (ACEA) schools have once again stood at the heart of Team Bahamas’ success, as student–athletes from Bishop Michael Eldon School (BMES), St. Anne’s School (SAS), and St. John’s College (SJC) combined for an outstanding medal haul at the 53rd CARIFTA Games in St. George’s, Grenada, and the CARIFTA Aquatics Championships. Their performances spanned track, field, multi‑events, and swimming, underscoring ACEA’s commitment to holistic formation.
On the track, the Bahamas’ under‑17 girls 4x100m relay team blazed to gold in a new CARIFTA record of 44.21 seconds at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium, with ACEA standouts Jazae Johnson (SJC) and Keyezra Thomas (BMES) both featuring on the quartet. Johnson and Thomas added to their relay triumph with individual medals, as Johnson captured gold in the Girls U17 long jump and later struck gold again in the U17 triple jump, while also contributing in sprint events. Thomas claimed bronze in the Girls U17 200m and secured silver in the U17 girls 400m, demonstrating her range across the sprint events.
ACEA’s presence was equally strong in the boys’ events. Ashley Demeritte Jr. (SJC) earned silver in the Under‑17 boys octathlon after two demanding days of competition, partnering with teammate Justin Shepherd, who took gold for The Bahamas. On the track, Aiden Musgrove won silver in the Under‑17 boys 4x400m relay, helping Team Bahamas to the podium in one of CARIFTA’s marquee relays. Giants hurdler Shawne Ferguson added a bronze medal in the Under‑17 boys 110m hurdles, further strengthening ACEA’s impact in the sprint‑hurdle events.
In the field, Johnson capped a remarkable Games with her long jump gold for Girls U17, headlining national media coverage and reinforcing her status as one of the Bahamas’ leading young jumpers. Her triple jump gold and relay gold gave her three CARIFTA titles at these Games, alongside additional sprint medals for Team Bahamas.
ACEA swimmers also turned in dominant displays at the CARIFTA Aquatics Championships. Christon Joseph (SAS) emerged as one of Team Bahamas’ standout performers, amassing multiple gold medals, including his sixth gold in the Boys 13–15 200m individual medley. Joseph joined BMES teammates Dexter Russell Jr. and Harold Simmons, along with BMES swimmer Sean Norville‑Smith Jr., to win gold in the Boys 13–14 medley relay, and later teamed with Simmons and Russell to capture gold in the Boys 13–14 200m freestyle relay. Individually, Russell claimed silver in the Boys 13–14 50m freestyle, while Norville‑Smith took bronze in the Boys 13–14 100m backstroke, rounding out a strong ACEA showing in the pool.
